VUB | MSc Journalism and Media in Europe (2024-2025)
Summary
This thesis examines how female war correspondents navigate gender-specific safety challenges in conflict zones. Based on interviews with 11 female journalists worldwide, it reveals additional risks of harassment, discrimination and cultural limitations, and how they shape reporting and source access.
It highlights gaps in safety training and mental health support and calls for gender-responsive safety policies.
